Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing the way businesses operate, market and make decisions. However, before organisations invest in AI tools, they first need to understand why they are implementing AI, how it aligns with their business objectives and what ethical considerations should guide its use.

This was the central theme of Spottmedia’s AI for Business Workshop, hosted on Thursday, 4 June 2026. Led by our Founder Rucien Petersen, the workshop reached more than 60 business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals who was ready to learn how Artificial Intelligence can be implemented strategically and responsibly.

The workshop was designed to move beyond the hype surrounding AI and instead provide attendees with practical, business-focused insights that could be applied immediately within their organisations.

AI Begins with Strategy, Not Technology

One of the key messages shared throughout the workshop was that successful AI implementation does not begin with selecting the latest tool. It begins with understanding the business challenge you are trying to solve.

Many organisations make the mistake of adopting AI simply because it is trending. Instead, businesses should first identify where AI can improve productivity, enhance customer experiences, reduce repetitive tasks, or strengthen decision-making.

Participants were encouraged to think strategically about AI by asking fundamental questions such as:

By developing a clear purpose before implementation, businesses are more likely to realise long-term value from their AI investments.

Practical ChatGPT Prompting for Better Results

A highlight of the workshop was the practical session on ChatGPT and prompt engineering.

Many professionals are already using AI tools, yet they often struggle to produce meaningful results because they rely on vague or incomplete prompts.

During the session, attendees explored practical prompting frameworks that demonstrated how providing context, defining the audience, specifying the desired tone, and outlining clear objectives can significantly improve AI-generated outputs.

Participants also learned how ChatGPT can assist with content creation, brainstorming, business communication, marketing campaigns, strategic planning, and improving everyday productivity while still relying on human expertise, creativity and oversight.

The session reinforced an important principle: the quality of AI output depends largely on the quality of the instructions it receives.

Understanding the Ethical Considerations of AI

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into the workplace, organisations also have a responsibility to ensure that these technologies are used ethically and responsibly.

The webinar explored several important considerations, including data privacy, misinformation, bias, transparency, intellectual property, and the importance of maintaining human judgement when using AI-generated content.

Rather than replacing people, AI should be viewed as a tool that enhances human capability while supporting responsible decision-making.

Building trust with customers, employees, and stakeholders remains essential as businesses continue their AI journey.

Exploring Practical AI Tools for Business

The workshop also introduced participants to a range of practical AI tools that can improve productivity and marketing performance.

Examples demonstrated how AI can assist businesses with content creation, visual communication, video repurposing, workflow automation, brainstorming, and customer engagement.

Importantly, attendees were reminded that tools alone do not create business success. It is the combination of strategy, people, and technology that delivers meaningful outcomes.

Building AI Confidence

One of the strongest takeaways from the workshop was that organisations do not need to become AI experts overnight. Instead, they should focus on building confidence through education, experimentation, and responsible implementation.

By understanding the fundamentals first, businesses can make informed decisions about where AI fits into their operations and avoid adopting technology without a clear business purpose.

The overwhelming response to the workshop reflects the growing interest among South African businesses in understanding how Artificial Intelligence can drive innovation, improve efficiency and strengthen competitiveness.
