One on One with Mompreneur Sylma Rees!
It’s the month of May! This can only mean one thing…Mother’s Day! For this special day we are celebrating one of our clients Sylma Rees, business owner of Apex Pilates. Sylma Rees is a female entrepreneur who started Apex Pilates about 9 years ago. She recently gave birth to a beautiful daughter of 9 months old. As we know being a mom, business owner and wife can be very challenging that is why Spottmedia is pleased to support Sylma with her marketing needs -making it easier for her to run her business and be a mom. We had a one on one with Sylma and asked her to share her journey as a mom and entrepreneur and how Spottmedia has added value to her business.
1. When did you start your business?
I started my business in 2010.
2. What was your reason for starting your own business (Pilates studio)?
I started for fun with some free classes for my friends and before I knew it, it grew by word of mouth. Helping people that have been living with pain and body discomfort, inspired me to start a studio. I love making clients feel better about themselves and their bodies.
3. What’s the most challenging part to owning a business and being a mom?
It’s sometimes hard to make time for all my responsibilities each day. When you own a business you can’t pass off all of the work, even if you want to. My daily challenge is to balance a business I love and believe in with the love and commitment of being a parent.
4. How many children do you have and how old are they?
One daughter, 9 months old.
5. What do you love the most about being a mom?
That’s easy, her smiles, giggles and newly acquired dance moves when she sees me.
6. What motivates you to keep on moving forward?
Some days it’s hard, but receiving emails from satisfied clients, clients that started at Apex Pilates in pain and now move more freely with either a diminished pain level or are even pain free!
7. Provide a brief description of your business (Pilates studio).
Apex Pilates is a boutique pilates studio in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa. Conveniently located in the Kenridge Centre. Right next door to Kenridge Primary School. We offer top Pilates Mat and Equipment Classes in a Group setting or on a Private & Semi-Private basis. Our instructors are qualified under Body Arts and Science International (BASI) and BCP, leading International Pilates education academies with reputations for innovation, dedication and academic excellence.
8. How can moms benefit from Pilates?
Moms need to have strong bodies to handle their day to day chores of being a mom! From picking up their little one to getting their bodies back after pregnancies and giving birth, not to mention running a household or going back to work (especially if you sitting behind a desk).
9. Running a business and being a new mom can be daunting. How has Spottmedia assisted you in this aspect?
Spottmedia is helping me with the social media side of the business. This takes a lot of admin off my list and gives me more time to handle other day to day tasks and studio admin and thus I have more time to spend with my daughter.
10. Any encouraging messages for future mompreneurs?
Whatever you are doing, you are doing great! Remember yourself in between it all. There is only one of you so make time for yourself. Taking care of your children, managing life and running a business is admirable. Without you, things would surely fall apart.
